I have the feeling that they borrowed some elements of Kimagure Orange Road in the episode, especially the elder sister who looks like Madoka :D

Also there could be a reference to some episode of the sentai show Battle Fever J (featuring a younger sister called Yuki whose heart gets broken somehow). Yuki has also a nice Tama & Friends tee-shirt :D
